Dr. Theopolis

Dr. Theopolis is one of the Shimmering Seas' brightest—if somewhat disordered—minds. He's an elderly fellow with crazy white hair, strange magnifying glasses, and a white labcoat; all of which serve to prove his genius, of course. Though he never calls himself a mad scientist, he rarely contradicts others who do. He's probably far too busy mentally calculating the thrust-to-weight ratio of his next ingenious creation to pay much attention anyway.

Once the greatest inventor in the employ of the Imperial Navy, Theo fell out of favor when a series of prototype cannons he devised backfired dramatically on Captain Montague, leading to the Navy's most ignominious defeat at what is now called Humiliation Cove. Sent packing in disgrace, Theo was not downhearted, resolving instead to prove himself the world's preeminent scientist. He built his own island to the east of Buccaneer Bay, marked by towering scrap piles and reefs of pure junk, and went to work on countless bizarre creations.

This hive of activity is a magnet for ruthless pirates seeking to steal the mad doctor's latest experimental weapons, and it was during such a raid that Jack happened to sail by, saving Dr. Theopolis from some scurvy sea dogs. Now the absent minded Theo is a frequent ally to Jack and Esmeralda, providing all manner of peculiar gizmos to aid them in whatever hare-brained scheme Jack has devised.

Occasionally, Theo even ventures out with Jack, usually in his custom submersible, the Unfathomable. Theo wears the Unfathomable like a second skin and is constantly tinkering and upgrading it with new devices. His torpedoes allow him to strike safely at both surface vessels and submerged attackers, and Dr. Theopolis is more than happy to sacrifice top speed for near invulnerability. He may be mad, but he's not CRAZY!
